Maybe it’s the weight of the orchestra, joining in and augmenting the musical lines, but …there must be something… is an impressive piece. Bold, unapologetic and inspired, but not derivative, it has in this superb live recording a potential to stir a longing and desire by the right means - the means of a composition confident in its strength and direction, unafraid to startle the listener, and sure in its grip. I’m happy to report that there is indeed “something” to Peter Breiner’s music.

Great care has been lavished on these little musical pearls. The musicians’ virtuosic gifts are displayed to best advantage.

This is brilliant music which the “Basler” group has been given, has discovered or written in the most incongruous situations while on tour. Real fireworks which, once again, showcase this ensemble’s musical qualities. An ensemble capable of switching between repertoires, bouncing from seduction in very classical pages to the languorous works of Tango Argentino, while also flirting with contemporary compositions.
